Monash College Professional Year helps Mithila land dream role
Mithila Siriwardana from Sri Lanka, was recently able to access the hidden job market and secure a full-time job as a Fire Safety Consultant at RED Fire Engineers.
Monash College Professional Year Program helped Mithila create a new CV, develop effective interview skills, and update his LinkedIn profile.
So, how did he do it?
“I enrolled in the PY program and soon discovered Monash College helps with various employability skills which resulted in me securing a full-time job even before completing the program.” I learnt how to face interviews, interact with culturally diverse people, and importantly how to assertively communicate with others. Another key skill I learnt was networking, which was very helpful when I attended mandatory Engineers Australia networking events.”
Mithila networked with a fire engineer at an event, took the initiative to contact him on LinkedIn and eventually consulted him about job opportunities. The Engineer forwarded Mithila’s CV to the HR department and Mithila was invited for an interview. “I confidently faced the interview as I have learnt and practised interview skills through the Monash College PY program. One thing led to another and within a couple of days I was hired.”
“Thank you to Madeleine Hills, my trainer, for developing and enhancing my employability skills.”
